ARTHROSCOPIC SURGERY
The joints of our body enable us to move about freely. We rely upon our arms and legs, or extremities for mobility. Living with a joint injury can make simple, everyday activities painful. When indicated, arthroscopic surgery may be the best option to correct the problem.
With an arthroscope, the doctor is able to look inside the joint, identify and surgically repair the problem. Small incisions called portals allow the instruments and a fiber optic camera into the joint space. The image is then displayed on to a monitor in the operating room. This allows the surgeon to clearly see the joint, diagnose the problem and make the necessary corrections all in one simple procedure.
The physicians at Orthopaedic Associates of St. Augustine are experts in the field of arthroscopy and perform these procedures every day. Arthroscopic surgery is generally done on an outpatient basis and requires no overnight stay. Patients receiving arthroscopic surgery are able to return to most normal activities much sooner than with more invasive procedures.
