There are basically two types of pain, acute and chronic. Acute pain usually happens when you suffer from a traumatic injury, such as a car accident, broken bone, or rapid onset back pain. It can also happen when you have a tissue damaging disease, such as an infection. Usually these types of pain resolve or are treated successfully by your primary care doctor or surgeon.

Chronic pain occurs when an acute pain is unsuccessfully treated, and has lasted for months to years. The most common chronic pain diagnoses seen at the Pain Management Center are back and neck pain, headache, pelvic pain and sciatica.

Dr. Andrea Trescot brings over 25 years of pain management experience to diagnosing and treating pain maladies. Through careful physical examination and history taking, she is often able to put medicines in the correct location, pinpointing the probable pain generator and setting in place a plan of action that will usually reduce the pain and lead to improved function and quality of life.

Subsequent visits may include advanced pain interventions requiring fluoroscopic imaging and specialized equipment, available in our in-house ambulatory surgery center. Individualized physical therapy plans are often crafted once the definitive
diagnosis is made.
