SPRAINS & STRAINS:
With todays active lifestyles, sprains and strains have become commonplace. A sprain or strain affects a particular muscle group when overuse or repetitive motion occurs. Often if left untreated, tendons that connect muscles to the bone can begin to tear. It is important to consult a physician, skillfully trained in treating musculoskeletal injuries.
A sprained or strained muscle should always be treated with adequate rest to allow for proper healing. The RICE, Rest, Ice, Compression and Elevation approach is often utilized for sprains and strains. For severe sprains, casting or splinting may be necessary.
The physicians and staff at Orthopaedic Associates of St. Augustine treat a wide variety of sprains and strains on a daily basis. From the young child at play to the industrial worker, our goal remains the same, to return you to your pre-injury activities as soon as possible.
