SURGICAL INFORMATION :

So… you have decided to have surgery? Here are just a few tips to help your surgery day be as pleasant as possible.

PREOPERATIVE CHECK LIST
:

If  you take an aspirin a day or are on Coumadin, Plavix or Anti-inflamatories, you need to discuss with your family doctor when you can safely stop these medicines prior to surgery.

Do not eat or drink anything after midnight the night before your surgery.  If your surgery is scheduled after 3:00pm you may have a small breakfast before 8:00am.

If you take heart medicine or blood pressure medicine, please take them with the smallest amount of water possible to swallow your pills.

Diabetes:  If you are insulin dependent and take your insulin as an injectable, take half of your normal prescribed dose.  If you take oral insulin, do not take any.

What time do I report for surgery?

Please report to the Surgery Center or the hospital at least one hour before your scheduled surgery.

Since some procedures take less time to complete than others, or there may be cancellations, please stay by your phone in case you are called to arrive earlier than previously scheduled.

Can I still have my surgery if I have a cold?

If you have a mild cold it is probably ok to proceed with your surgery.

If you have a productive cough producing green phlegm, please call your doctor to discuss whether your surgery can occur.

Other helpful tips to prepare you for Surgery:

Please pick up any pain medications prescribed by your surgeon the day before your surgery.

Arrange for someone to drive you home after your surgery.
